Three jawans of the Army were killed and three others injured in a ensnare did by a joint gathering of ULFA and NSCN(K) terrorist close to the oil town of Digboi in Tinsukia region in eastern Assam early Saturday morning. The jawans had a place with the 15 Kumaon Regiment. This is first real assault by ULFA aggressors since the BJP-led government assumed responsibility in Assam in May.
“The incident took at around 5:30 AM on Saturday as a Maruti Gypsy and a truck of the 15 Kumaon Regiment was moving from Pengeri towards Digboi. It is unquestionably the craftsmanship of the ULFA group of Paresh Barua with the support of the NSCN(K). There probably been no less than 15 terrorists in the gathering that terminated from inside the Upper Dehing held forest,” Tinsukia locale SP Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta said.
The two army force vehicles were on duty as a major aspect of the counter-rebellion operations, Guwahati-based Army PRO Lt Col Suneet Newton told The Reporters. “The 15 Kumaon is based at Pengeri in Tinsukia locale on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh fringe,” he said. While the 2.5-ton truck was diverted from the street because of the effect of the snare, there were endless projectile stamps on the Maruty Gypsy.
