In a historic performance at the Dubai International Stadium on February 20, 2025, Towhid Hridoy became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a century against India in an ICC tournament. This milestone occurred during Bangladesh’s opening Group A match in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Hridoy’s impressive innings featured five boundaries and two sixes, culminating in a 114-ball century. This achievement marks his maiden international hundred and places him among a select group of Bangladeshi players who have reached three figures against India in ODIs. Notably, he is the first to do so in an ICC event.
During his knock, Hridoy partnered with Jaker Ali to establish a 153-run stand for the sixth wicket. This partnership set a new record for the highest sixth-wicket stand in Champions Trophy history and the highest against India in ODI cricket.
However, the innings was not without challenges. In the 47th over, while on 96 runs, Hridoy experienced severe cramps in his left leg after playing a shot off Mohammed Shami. Despite the evident discomfort and requiring on-field treatment, he persevered to complete his century, though it remains uncertain if he will field in the subsequent innings.
This landmark performance underscores Hridoy’s resilience and marks a significant moment in Bangladesh’s cricketing history.
