Approximately 1.56 crore eligible voters can cast their ballots across 13,766 designated polling stations. To vote, individuals must present their Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or another approved government-issued identification, such as an Aadhaar card. Security measures include the deployment of 220 paramilitary companies, 19,000 home guards, and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel to ensure a smooth and fair election process.
The election features a triangular contest among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress party. Prominent candidates include AAP’s Atishi contesting from the Kalkaji constituency against Congress leader Alka Lamba and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is running from the New Delhi seat, facing BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. Manish Sisodia of AAP is vying for the Jangpura seat against BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress’s Farhad Suri.
The current 70-member Delhi Assembly’s term concludes on February 23, 2025. The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, is seeking a third consecutive term, while the BJP aims to end AAP’s tenure. The Congress party is also striving to regain its influence in the capital’s political landscape.
Voters are encouraged to participate actively in the electoral process to strengthen democracy. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of voter engagement, expressing hope that “Dilli dil se vote karegi” (Delhi will vote with all its heart).
The election results are anticipated to be announced on February 8, 2025.
