The hot world of collectible Scotch turned up the heat today in Edinburgh, Scotland, where auction house Bonhams put one amongst the foremost sought-after bottles of whisky beneath the hammer. With a tag of roughly Rs 14,22,300, this bottle of 50-year-old Glenfiddich single malt scotch prices roughly an equivalent as a brand new Nisan Terrano.

Bottled in 1991 from casks filled in 1937 and 1939 — a batch of nine casks laid down by the Grant family in the 1930s — it is one of only 500 limited editions bottles released in the market. Numbered 448, this particular bottle comes in its original fitted wooden case and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity provided by William Grant & Sons and The Glenfiddich Distillery in Scotland.

For the people who are unfamiliar with this bottling, this rare big-ticket item is said to make a presence in the whisky auctions only once in five years. It is presently the fourth most expensive whisk in the world.
